If you want to look suave, sophisticated and stylish throughout the New Year and beyond, now is the perfect time to revamp your wardrobe. We’ve all got old cardigans, unflattering dresses and jeans that (let’s face it) are probably never going to fit again, so why not have a good sort out and feel like a goddess with these five simple steps?
Transform what you already own
Believe it or not, you don’t have to throw out everything that’s too small, a bit tatty or has gone out of fashion. That’s right, with a bit of imagination and artistic flare, you can turn something old into something fabulous, so pop along to your favourite clothes shop for inspiration and let your creative side loose. If you’ve a retro shirt, for instance, dying the collar and cuffs a different colour or adding texture in the form of sequins or buttons could be all you need to do to look like you’ve just stepped off the catwalk. After all, contrast colour button-downs are bang on trends this season.

Fashion is largely subjective, but if you’re looking for ways to revamp your style, it can’t hurt to turn an eye to the runway. The Spring/Summer Fashion Week of 2014 saw an array of spectacular designs that are sure to decorate the high street, so keep a look out for pastel colours, trendy bomber jackets, wide-leg trousers, tea-length skirts and much, much more. Seasonal sweaters are also set to be a hit next year, so get hold of something cosy or team one you already own with some leggings or a flirty skirt.
Try something a bit different
One of the best ways to revitalise your wardrobe is to try something a little different. Opt for cuts that you know suit you, but look for colours, makes and designs that you might not normally wear. Unusual fashion trends such as Steampunk are readily available online at eBay and will help you stand out from the crowd. Wondering what this is? Well, think Victorian London meets the sci-fi novels of H. G. Wells and you’ll be pretty close to the mark. Corsets, hats, double-breasted jackets and equestrian themed outfits complete this unusual mashup, but who knows – it might just suit you.
Buy some wardrobe essentials
If you’re always rooting through your clothes wondering what to wear, you could be lacking a few staple items. A tailored suit, for instance, is a must-have for any career woman not to mention well-fitting jeans, a stylish jacket and plenty of tops and cardigans that you can just throw on if you’re heading out to the pub. Complete with accessories such as wraps, hats, shoes and anything else that can glam up an outfit and you’re ready for any event.
Buy things that fit
Finally, if you want to top up your wardrobe with a host of new clothes, only buy things that fit. Purchasing garments that are too small in the hope you’ll slim into them is not only dangerous but it could damage your self-esteem if you never end up wearing them. In short, don’t worry about what size it says on the label, but instead love what you buy and feel fabulous whenever you put it on – after all, no one sees the tags. Similarly, don’t swamp you figure in clothes that are too big for you as this can be highly unflattering.
So there you have it, five surefire ways to transform your wardrobe for 2014.
