“Beauty is not in the eyes of the beholder, but rather built into their minds” . What would a building or natural space look and feel like if it were designed to promote psychological social and ecological wellbeing? How would it affect the senses, the emotions, the body and the mind? How would it affect behavioral patterns and sense of community? What is the link between the built and not-so-built environment and health and wellbeing.
A unique Master Class presented by Motti Essakow, founder of OmWard Bound and Rythms by OmWard Bound, meets on EUROPEAN SPA the best international experts in architecture and design : Rebecca Whittington, Co Founder Scarlett Eco Luxury Hotel and Spa, UK Sergio Bizzarro – Wellness Architect – Italy, Carlo Beltramelli, Architect, Studio Beltramelli, Italy, Stefano Catteneo, Piscine Lagehetto, Italy, Tatiana Lamanna, Nuova Osmo, Italy, Elodie Ternaux, materiO, France, Svein Arne Sorgard, Shape Audio, Denmark, Laurent Malbert, founder

A typical hotel, spa and wellbeing experience is supposedly designed to address the users aspirations and thus relax, rejuvenate and reinvigorate the mind, body and soul. An innovative and Responsible spa and Wellbeing facility should reflect cultural authenticity and Ecological sensitivity in ways which optimizes people’s health and wellbeing, and ways which maximizes Clean (beyond “green”) and innovative technologies.
However it is common to find copy – cat design in hotels, spas and wellness centers. Architecture that differentiates is the type that reflects emotional design which offers:
- Spontaneous social encounters although controlled movement between interaction & solitude
- Opportunity for relaxation
- Psychological restoration
- Connection to nature and the natural environment
- Biomimicry inspired design (ie using nature as a design tool)
- Sound levels similar to nature
- Sensory variability
Buildings affect our psyche as well as our bodies. They can be inspiring and supportive of daily activities, or they can deplete the spirits. Positively experienced, healthy buildings with high values are designed around basic human and planetary needs, ancient preferences and connections to the patterns of nature, the mind and organizational profits.
In essence, both indoor and environments strongly affect human health and wellbeing. The “Wellbeing thru Design” workshop will focus on how this relates to enhancing the comfort and wellbeing of people, planet and profit within a Responsible Luxury spa and hospitality style built environment.
