Beyond Beauty Paris 2010: Beyond Beauty MAG insight

The trade show is now over, after four busy days under sunny parisian skies. The beyond beauty MAG team strolled through it on the lookout for innovations, trends, glimpse of products and good ideas.

Our favorites

Project

Nunavik Biosciences, a Canadian company that’s a subsidiary of Makivik Corporation, promotes startup companies to stimulate the Inuit economy and community, notably in researching and developing the maritime and terrestrial natural resources of the northern region of Quebec. Algae and plants enter into the formulation of the cosmetics lines such as Ungava, launched in May 2010 online. Using algae rich in vitamin E (thanks to 22 hours of daily sunshine throughout the summer) and omega 3s. It’s enough to develop a very hydrating, anti-age concept with anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, at a price range of between €60 and €90.

Skill

Léonard gave an incredible demonstration at its stand, explaining what making a traditional makeup brush is all about. Nathalie Le Barzic thus spent three days at the trade show making, or more exactly doing the “first knot” of the saber bristle brush. Working with Léonard for 13 years, Ms. Le Barzic works at the Saint-Brieuc site and attracted the attention of many visitors at the trade show, as curious as they were moved by this surprising type of know-how. Time and expertise are needed to offer the best quality. And it’s good to demonstrate it.

Technology

At Tokiwa, which was presenting two new mascara applicators, technological genius was apparent in the Fork eyeliner. As its name indicates, it is an applicator formed of three small teeth making it possible to delicately apply classic, liquid mascara between
the upper lashes to their root. And to apply the Jar Mascara, which has a viscous formula, Tokiwa has designed not a brush, but a frontal applicator with teeth, with different shapes of combs and handles (including one that’s retractable).

Concept

This favorite recognizes a project that Laure de Grandry has been carrying around for a long time. Formerly on the staff at Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, she delved into the need for personalized skincare, adapted to women’s overnight needs, according to the condition of their skin and what they are experiencing. “Women’s unique character seems to have been effaced from today’s skincare offer,” she explains. In talking with the researcher Gérard Redziniak, she realized the importance of targeting cells and of neurocosmetics.

ArtdeSoi is the cosmetics of the senses, individualized, designed and developed by a team of experts and friends, who speak frankly and get to the nitty-gritty. “Blanche Crème et les Sept Clés” is the name of the concept, a cream (day or night) and seven serums to use alone or with the cream, to short-circuit the cellular imbalances created by various stresses.
Its secret? Proteins identical to those the skin harbors and that replace temporary deficiences and restart the machines “like keys in locks.” Souffle Zen soothes the effects of nervousness on the skin, Cool Cocoon diminishes red spots, Mat Mat balances oily-prone skin, Pure Rosée hydrates, Eclair de Teint lightens the skin as the name indicates, Tendre Fermeté plumps up and firms, and Double Jeune fights wrinkles. Seven serums for seven very targeted actions on a cell every time.

Simple. The argument is understandable and the tone makes sense. Available in March 2011 in selective stores.
