The French, and more broadly European, beauty market is synonymous with innovation and quality; for Karine Tiano, Director of Purchasing at BLISS, New York, it is a conviction. She will therefore be at Beyond Beauty Paris, and tells us what she expects from the visit and her participation as a member of the jury of the Beauty Challenger Awards.
What are you looking for at Beyond Beauty Paris?
Karine Tiano : I have come to see the new trends in Europe. BLISS is a chain of spas based in the United States and England. We distribute – through our spas, retail outlets, and to a great extent through our website – products from our own private label as well as other niche brands, for the face, body, makeup, hair, etc. … We are looking for brands that complement our range, those with a “fun” profile, with a story, upmarket and, if possible, including a treatment procedure.
The French market is far more into innovation – that is what I see at Beyond Beauty Paris.
How does BLISS position itself?
Karine Tiano: BLISS wishes to strengthen its links with spas, strengthen its concept of “lifestyle beauty”, extend its product categories, including pre- and post-surgery, electrical accessories…
You are a member of the Beauty Challenger Awards jury, what advice would you give to niche brands?
Karine Tiano: Have a story well prepared, good ingredients, a PR budget, samples, beautiful packaging. A plus is being able to show tests that prove the efficacy of the product.
There is no competition of this kind in the U.S. It is a really good occasion to take the time to discover new brands, to judge objectively, to satisfy curiosity.
The Beauty Challenger Awards ceremony will be held on 13 September 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at Beyond Beauty Paris.
BEYOND BEAUTY PARIS from 13 to 15 September 2010 – Paris, Porte de Versailles.
