Subjects of discussion – Edito by Sabine Chabbert

BBM28couv'1Under the cover of confidential information, journalists are often swamped with hot scoops, about which they must say nothing, of course. Yet it would be great if somebody said something, since nobody has told us anything. Among the recurring subjects that go around from the upper realms to the lower, the lower to the higher, without ever really gaining any height, there is the subject of core lists. You know, that strange practice which right away eliminates the possibility of lively creativity from less noticeable sources. And there’s the subject of raw materials from the perfume industry as well. Here, everybody cries wolf all at once, rising up against the threats and decisions of European bureaucrats. In vain. sc_recadreWe hold symposiums, we talk about what we’ve already said, in the singular and the plural. It’s true, and it’s more than unfortunate: it will be difficult to identically reproduce yesteryear’s fragrances, simply because the ingredients that make them up are out of favor, or worse no longer exist. it’s the same for some recent fragrances whose formulas must already be modified for the same reasons. But let’s stay optimistic, because the research talent and imagination of fragrance composers make it possible to save formulas; because fragrance creativity is in good shape and still has nice surprises in store for us; and because this wonderful invention – the Osmothèque, preserver of our fragrance heritage – opens the door to all memories. And finally, let’s be glad the fragrance world spurs so much interest and passion that it lacks neither experts nor fragrance lovers who are ready to hand on the fragrance trails we cannot forget.
